Josune Orbe obtained the PhD in Molecular Biology in the Universidad de Navarra, (Pamplona, Spain). After a post-doctoral fellow at the Laboratory of Thrombosis and Hemostasis, University of Navarra, she was recruited as a research collaborator in the atherosclerosis laboratory, investigating the role of fibrinolytic metalloproteinases and proteins in cardiovascular diseases. In 2002, she joined Cima-Universidad de Navarra as a researcher of the Cardiovascular Diseases Program.

Since 2015 she is the head at the atherothrombosis laboratory, whose research is focused on the study of the most relevant inflammatory, proteolytic and prothrombotic mechanisms that lead to the progression of atherosclerosis and thrombus formation. She is a researcher in national and regional research structures as, the Network of Biomedical Research Center in Cardiovascular diseases (CIBERCV) and Navarra Health Research Institute (IdiSNA). She is a supervisor of final degree, master, and PhD dissertations, and professor of the Master in Biomedical Translational Research at the Universidad de Navarra (since 2009).

She is an affiliate member of Spanish society of Thrombosis and Hemostasis and she was member of the management board (2016-2020). She is the co-author on a number of manuscripts published in peer-review scientific journals, mainly in the field of cardiology, neurology, thrombosis and peripheral artery disease.
