Meet Josune Orbe, Chief Scientific Officer at Hemostatics

Dr. Josune Orbe serves as Chief Scientific Officer at Hemostatics, bringing extensive expertise in cardiovascular research and molecular biology. She earned her PhD in Molecular Biology from the Universidad de Navarra in Pamplona, Spain. Following her doctoral studies, Dr. Orbe completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Laboratory of Thrombosis and Hemostasis at the same institution, later joining the atherosclerosis laboratory as a research collaborator. There, she focused on the role of fibrinolytic metalloproteinases and related proteins in cardiovascular diseases.

In 2002, Dr. Orbe became a researcher in the Cardiovascular Diseases Program at Cima–Universidad de Navarra. Since 2015, she has led the Atherothrombosis Laboratory, where her research centers on the key inflammatory, proteolytic, and prothrombotic mechanisms driving the progression of atherosclerosis and thrombus formation. She is actively involved in national and regional research networks, including the Network of Biomedical Research Center in Cardiovascular Diseases (CIBERCV) and the Navarra Health Research Institute (IdiSNA).

In addition to her research leadership, Dr. Orbe is a dedicated academic mentor, supervising undergraduate, master’s, and PhD dissertations. She also teaches in the Master in Biomedical Translational Research program at Universidad de Navarra, a role she has held since 2009. An affiliate member of the Spanish Society of Thrombosis and Hemostasis, she served on its management board from 2016 to 2020. Dr. Orbe is co-author of numerous peer-reviewed publications in the fields of cardiology, neurology, thrombosis, and peripheral artery disease.
