Dr. José Antonio Páramo obtained his Bachelor in Medicine in 1978 (University of Salamanca, Spain). He holds his PhD in Medicine and carried out his postdoctoral training at the University of Leuven, Belgium (1983-1984) and the Centre for Biological Standards and Control in London (1989). Since 1982, he has been working as consultant in Hematology at Clinica Universidad de Navarra (Pamplona, Spain), being currently Head of the Hemostasis and Thrombosis Unit, Director of the Vascular Medicine Area. He was accredited as Professor in Hematology by the School of Medicine at the Universidad de Navarra since 2009 and he has been Director of the Atherosclerosis Laboratory in the Cardiovascular Sciences Department of Cima (2004-2014). He has also been President of the Spanish Society of Hemostasis and Thrombosis (SETH) from 2016- to 2020.
His area of expertise for patient care concerns hospitalised patients and outpatients with hemorrhagic and thrombotic problems. The main research areas are atherosclerosis, inflammatory/prothrombotic biomarkers, metalloproteinases and fibrinolysis. He is a main investigator of the CIBERCV (network of cardiovascular diseases, Instituto de Salud Carlos III, Spain).
