Meet Jesús Hernández, Board Member at Hemostatics

Jesús M. Hernández has extensive experience in senior leadership positions across pharma, biotech, academic drug discovery, and translational innovation.

He spent 20 years at Eli Lilly and Company, holding executive roles such as Executive Director for Clinical Research and Regulatory Affairs, and Vice President of Medical Affairs for Europe. In these roles, Jesús successfully led high-performing multidisciplinary teams, including medical, regulatory, operational, and health outcomes experts. He played an instrumental role in the development, regulatory approval, and commercialization of multiple innovative medicines across diverse therapeutic areas. Additionally, Jesús was actively involved in transforming R&D and business models, particularly in the domains of patient outcomes research and integrated strategies for patient and prescriber engagement. He was pivotal in establishing Lilly’s LRL Discovery facilities in Alcobendas, Spain, where abemaciclib originated.

From 2010 to 2016, Jesús served as Managing Director of the Center for Applied Medical Research (CIMA, University of Navarra, Spain), driving its translational research mission and implementing a new sustainable economic model. Concurrently, he was CEO of Digna Biotech and held board positions in CIMA startups, including Hepacyl Therapeutics and Formune Vaccines. Notably, Jesús was instrumental in the landmark partnership between CIMA and Vivet Therapeutics—a gene therapy startup co-founded by CIMA—which secured one of Spain’s largest Series-A funding rounds in academic biotech at the time. He subsequently served on the board of Vivet Therapeutics.

Currently an independent biotech consultant, Jesús has recently supported CIMA in founding startups such as Handl Therapeutics and Hemostatics Therapeutics. He also serves as Chairman of the Board at Telum Therapeutics and mentors Biointaxis SL, a gene therapy company within the Caixaimpulse initiative.

Jesús earned both his MD and PhD degrees, specializing in Infectious Diseases. Additionally, he has completed senior executive programs at prestigious institutions including London Business School, IESE Business School, INSEAD, and Harvard Business School.
