Meet Antonio Pineda-Lucena, Senior Scientific Advisor at Hemostatics

Antonio Pineda-Lucena earned his PhD from the Centro de Investigaciones Biológicas (CSIC) in Madrid, Spain, in 1995. Following this, Antonio moved to the Netherlands as a postdoctoral researcher at Radboud Universiteit in Nijmegen, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Cees Hilbers, supported by prestigious EMBO and Marie Sklodowska-Curie grants. During his time there, Antonio deepened his expertise in molecular biology, protein chemistry, and NMR spectroscopy.

His international scientific career continued in Canada, where he secured a permanent role as an Associate Scientist at the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research (Princess Margaret Hospital, Toronto)—one of Canada’s leading institutions for cancer research and treatment. Antonio subsequently accepted a position in the pharmaceutical industry, joining AstraZeneca as an Associate Principal Scientist at its major oncology research facility in Alderley Park, Manchester, United Kingdom.

In 2005, Antonio was recruited as a Principal Investigator by the Centro de Investigación Príncipe Felipe (CIPF) in Valencia, Spain, where he led the Structural Biochemistry Laboratory and the NMR facility. In May 2015, he took on a new challenge at the Instituto de Investigación Sanitaria La Fe, also in Valencia, serving as Director of its Drug Discovery Unit. Four years later, Antonio transitioned to Cima Universidad de Navarra in Pamplona, Spain, where he held senior leadership positions such as Director of Translational Research and Deputy Director, alongside scientific roles including Director of the Molecular Therapeutics Program and Senior Investigator in the Medicinal Chemistry Laboratory.
